I bought this so I could program an ESP8266. It was a struggle at first to get it running on Mac, because the recent update to Mavericks has borked the default FTDI drivers. Downloading the appropriate drivers from the FTDI site appeared to sort this. I am now able to communicate with the ESP without connecting it to an MCU. Yep, a great bit of kit and does all that I want it to. Would recommend.
