After many attempts, I had to conclude that the unit I received is not operational. It sweeps correctly but does not show any signal. Test were performed with a 3 GHz HP signal generator, at various frequencies and signal levels, always below 0 dBm. For some frequencies, a blip is visible, much below the input signal. I am not a novice, as far as RF measurement is concerned.

Lutz Well the "blip" is there when input frequency matches the LO because it is directly mixed and the log detector wont work at very low (or even zero) frequencies. This simple design does not really resemble a spectrum analyzer. Normally it should be mixed to a narrow band IF that is being detected. Then there would be no blip...
