I bought one of these and when it arrived it showed no signs of life. It does not come with a battery, for the price that's understandable, apart from that when you open up the back there are no +- markings so it's trial and error. My meter wouldn't switch on whichever way I fitted the battery. I requested a refund or replacement and the means to return the faulty meter. The replacement arrived and I fitted the battery and once again no signs of life, DOA. I checked the meter for any obvious loose connections and this time while shaking it a small spring steel plate showed itself underneath the PCB. A bit of jiggery pokkery and I prised this spring plate out from below the circuit board. I thought this must be the spring to fit between the + side of the battery and the circuit board. I found the place where this spring should be fitted to but the plastic moulding of the rear plate had not been made correctly in order to capture the plate. A wee heat with a soldering iron to lock the plate in place whoa, party hats and streamers, there was life. Now knowing what the fault was I made a hook from a paper clip and captured the spring from under the PCB on the original dead meter. Same repair on the original and it too burst into life. I can't imagine how this meter can be produced for this meagre amount of money but it should be made to be safe when connected to mains voltage, 240v, and working when it is sent out to purchasers.
