I used this mat for several hours to do my first SMD device soldering. The spaces provided are ideal for holding tiny parts, flux bottles, and tweezers etc. The silicone material will not harm the surface of anything placed on it. The silicone is very flexible and will not allow things to slide away easily. I deliberately held My TS-100 soldering iron onto the mat while it was set to 350C for may seconds and no major damage was seen to the mat.
