I was hesitant about these but ordered them anyway. They work awesome. The range is way more than I thought it would be. My application is through 3/4" maple plywood which worked flawlessly. I did some further testing to see what it can do and found that it works from 3-4" (80-100mm) in the air and it worked through about 1.5" (40mm), about.5" slate and 1" wood, on my coffee table. I don't usually write long reviews, but thought it was warranted in this case.
