mike_o Yes, they need a "ballast" unit, as they operate on 80-90V DC and an initial high voltage (kilovolt!) kick-start to get the ionisation going.

Q: is it brush or brushless?

Asked by cogsy on 2020-07-22 08:24:47

mike_o It's a brushed motor. A brushless motor will normally have 3 terminals, this one only has 2.

mike_o I use a 2836mm (outside diameter) 1150KV motor with a Graupner 8x5 Eprop on 3S. I get below 100mAh/km which corresponds to 75mAh/km at 4S. Still plenty of thrust for launch and climb.

mike_o Yes, the EPO is OK with CA glue. Actually, CA is the best for EPO, many established manufacturers recommend using CA for assembly.
