AlexanderPas Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the input isn't 12V. You need a 12V adapter, then hook up an EL Driver which makes 100V from the 12Volt. Then connect the EL wire to the driver. So the actual input voltage from the wire is 100V. By claiming it is 12V it's not weird that people think they just can connect it to a 12V dc adapter.
