Povd It is just a piece of wire but that is typical with any whoop board with a built in reciever and I'm sure it has something to do with them being synonyms for having horrible reception, that being said the antenna dosen't need to be grounded to work correctly. When you run ground to a receiver wire it's to ground the shielding on that wire and then the actual signal wire runs through the shielding till it getd close to the end where its exposed and this exposed wire at the end is what actually dose the work cause its cut to a certain length to work with the particular frequency being used 2.4ghz in this case. As long as that wire is the same length as the wire that exposed from the shielding on a wire that's has to be grounded it essentially dose the same job. but it also has to be free from obstructions cuase that can dramatically reduce your range so this is where longer shielded wires that have to be grounded are preferred if weight isn't an issue because they move the signal wire farther away from the obstructions of the frame and other parts on a model
